Ischemia Technologies, Inc.

Ischemia Technologies is developing and commercializing proprietary and patented technology for a new blood test for ischemia, with an initial focus on cardiac ischemia. Existing cardiac markers (eg: troponin, myoglobin and CK-MB) are released from necrosed cardiac muscle cells following an infarct after ischemia. The Ischemia Marker is a protein normally circulating in blood which is modified by exposure to ischemic heart tissue. The modification can be detected in a blood sample indirectly with a straightforward chemistry test or directly with an immuoassay. A more extensive clinical trial of several hundred patients at 5 premium US sites is under way, with results and a regulatory filing anticipated by early 2000.
