Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology Ltd. (HKIB) is a non-profit private company founded in 1989 with a donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Its mission is to provide the catalyst and essential infrastructure for the emergence of a biotechnology industry in Hong Kong SAR. In order to fulfill this objective, its corporate development strategy adopts a three-pronged approach with the following foci: · Pilot production of human therapeutics for clinical trial purpose. · Development of bioreactor-based plant micro-propagation technologies. · An Incubator Programme..... HKIB established a GMP Manufacturing Technology Centre for Human Vaccines and Pharmaceuticals (GMP-MTC), a Pharmaceutical Technology Centre (PTC), a Plant Biotechnology Laboratory (PBL) and an Incubator Facility (IF). The GMP-MTC has a pilot plant that produces clinical grade bio-pharmaceuticals under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines for Phase I and II human trials of innovative products.
