GEA is a fast-growing Nordic pharmaceutical company with a strong market orientation. In 1998, GEA was bought by the German pharmaceutical company HEXAL AG. GEA also acts as the representative for HEXAL products in the Nordic countries. From 1991 to 1997, GEA's turnover more than doubled, making GEA one of the largest pharmaceutical providers in the Nordic countries in our segment of prescription medicine and over-the-counter products. In the 1980s and 1990s, GEA has patented several manufacturing processes, including the processes for cimetidine, ranitidine and enalapril. GEA was the first generic company in the world to receive a patent for its aciclovir process.
