Today, Montedison used to be focused primarily on Agribusiness. With health-Care Chemicals, where, through Antibioticos, Montedison is was one of the top independent producers of cephalosporins and penicillins in the world.

The merger in 2002 between Montedison, Edison, Sondel and Fiat Energia gives life to a new company that maintains the Edison name and destined to be a key player in the Italian energy sector; it is the only group to deal with the production, transport and commercialisation of both electric energy and natural gas. The sale of numerous companies controlled by the new Edison will take place throughout 2002: Agribusiness, Health-Care Chemicals, Engineering, Shipbuilding.
