Patenta is a current awareness source in protein molecular biology. This is an exciting and fast paced area of research with many significant developments by genomics companies that are being reported almost exclusively in the patent literature, and not the journal literature. Patenta provides original titles and abstracts, many containing drawings. Each week, 15-30 selected patents are added to the service. Patenta abstracts and titles contain significantly more information than those that appear on the front page of the patent documents, and in most online patent services. The abstracts are written in a scientific style, smoothing over much of the legalistic jargon that is often found in the original abstracts. Patenta is available on a subscription basis at a very moderate price, with a 50% discount for academic users.
