The focus on metalloenzyme inhibitor research stems from an analysis both of the opportunities provided by these molecular targets and of British Biotech's particular strengths in discovery research. At least 200 metalloenzymes can be identified on current human genomic databases and a further significant number are also found in pathogenic bacteria and fungi.
