Diamyd Medical's business idea is to use its skills and network of contacts within immunology, biotechnology and business development to identify and develop pharmaceutical projects up to and including Phase II. The projects will then be sold or licensed out to major pharmaceutical companies for continued commercialization. The development and marketing of related diagnostic tests and substances can be of interest to promote contacts with researchers and prepare the markets for the pharmaceuticals.
A biotechnology company developing a vaccine for autoimmune diabetes known as Diamyd. Diamyd Medical AB (former BioSyn Holding AB) is, through its subsidiary Diamyd Therapeutics, developing a glutamic acid decarboxylase (rhGAD65) - based vaccine, Diamyd™, for Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM). Diamyd Diagnostics, another subsidiary of Diamyd Medical AB, specializes in in-vitro diagnostic tests for diabetes, aimed primarily at the research market. As the only company in the world, Diamyd Diagnostics can offer rhGAD65 in quantities for research purposes and a very competitive diagnostic anti-GAD kit, complemented by other diabetes related ELISA tests.
The Group consists of the parent Company Diamyd Medical, the wholly owned subsidiaries Diamyd Therapeutics, Diamyd Diagnostics and Diamyd Inc. Diamyd Inc. is not operational today. Furthermore, Diamyd Medical owns 19 per cent Mercodia AB, which develops and markets diagnostic kits for autoimmune diseases.
