Antiviral medication. Have developed a lectin derived from elderberries which binds to and inactivates influenza neuraminidase. This patented pharmaceutical can be used as a nasal spray. It is the active ingredient in OTC elderberry preparations such as "sambucol". It may also be useful in ricin poisoning as an antidote, but no research in this area.
